Halflives / band
“We all have half lives” is how powerhouse rock trio Halflives introduce their vision. Behind this raw statement stands the idea that our journey through existence is the sum of our battles, which ambivalently break us and build us.
Having survived the trials of life on the road, including a kidnapping in their own van that made them fear for their lives, Halflives have never been more resilient and determined to turn adversity into opportunity. Boldly honest and outspoken, Halflives embrace an unapologetic creative freedom and openly serve a catchy blend of melodic alt-rock, cutting-edge pop and textured elements from the trap and electronica worlds. Their first two EPs “Empty Rooms” (2017) and “Resilience” (2020) took them to 14 different countries to play over 100 shows, supporting the likes of PVRIS, Against The Current, The Faim, Icon For Hire, Chapel, Courage My Love and more.
Halflives self-assigned the mission to create a space where everyone is invited to take a break from how messed up the world is and embrace who they are without any compromise. In vocalist Linda Battilani’s words, “some days it will still feel like everything sucks, but some other days I’ll stand on top of the mountain, and it’s those days I want to live for.”
Embracing an unapologetic creative freedom and waving it as a strength, Halflives elegantly serve a catchy blend of melodic alt-rock, cutting-edge pop and textured elements from the trap and electronica worlds.
For Linda Battilani (vocals), writing and playing music on stage was always more than a hobby or a career perspective. It was always a raw need of expression and connection that gave her existence meaning, as a way to survive through everyday hardships, whenever life feels, as the band name suggests, like a half life.
With that vision in mind, Halflives burst into the scene in 2017 with their debut record “Empty Rooms” (April 14th) telling stories of love, loss and heartache with emotional intensity, powerhouse choruses and an anthemic sound.
2018 was about the single “Crown”, a self-empowering anthem that resonated intensely with listeners worldwide and the grittier “Fugitive”, sparking acclaim from Kerrang!, Rock Sound, AltPress, Spotify, Deezer and more.
Having lost a guitar player for the third time early 2019, Halflives decided to become a trio, with Linda (vocals) and Oscar (bass) alternately taking on the guitar live.
With this new formation and a refined sound and message, Halflives released their new EP “Resilience” on March 13th 2020, revolving around the concept of a five-step mental distress coping process. Based on buzzy and aggressive bass sounds, groovy drums and soulful vocals, “Resilience” highlights the band’s pop sensibility and displays how they reinvented themselves as a drum-and-bass-based rock band. The EP features guest vocals from Kellin Quinn (Sleeping With Sirens) on the track “Time Bomb” and received critical acclaim from Kerrang!, Rock Sound, Spotify, Deezer, Amazon Music, Pandora and more.
Halflives plan on promoting “Resilience” on the road in 2020 including an appearance at 2000 Trees Festival in the UK, all while writing new music.
Undisputed stage veterans, Halflives have already completed multiple tours in 14 different countries supporting the likes of The Faim, Icon For Hire, Chapel, Courage My Love and more, totaling over 100 shows.
When asked about their mission as a band, Linda will tell you that Halflives aim at creating through music an open and safe space, whether online or at their shows, where everyone is welcome to take a break whenever life feels half complete.
“RESILIENCE IS ALSO AN EP THAT CONFIDENTLY DEMONSTRATES ITS CREATORS’ BREAKOUT POTENTIAL.”
– Kerrang! Magazine
“ADDING MORE ELECTRONIC TENSION TO THEIR ALREADY BOMBASTIC SOUND, HALFLIVES’ SECOND EP FINDS THEM SHEDDING THEIR SKIN AND DELVING INTO NEW SONIC REALMS.”
– Rock Sound
“HALFLIVES ARE SOMETHING SPECIAL, THOUGH THEIR MAGNIFICENCE IS SO SUBTLE YOU’LL STRUGGLE TO PUT YOUR FINGER ON EXACTLY WHY YOU LOVE THEM SO MUCH. WHATEVER THE REASON, AFTER JUST ONE LISTEN, YOU’LL FIND THESE TRACKS SPINNING ROUND IN YOUR HEAD FOR WEEKS TO COME, AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHY HALFLIVES ARE AN UNSTOPPABLE FORCE. “
